Installation, sound, video, embroidery on textile

The psychoanalyst Julia Kristeva views revolt in its etymological meaning, defined as ‘returning, discovering, uncovering and renovating’. Revolt means re-centering our self to discover the truth by bringing conflicts to the surface, a central idea in this piece.

In a time when the discourse on abortion rights rises and the effect of power in society lands on the body, the ultrasound of an embryo is magnified, as the artist attempts to return to the womb, reclaim the power lost and explore themes around consent and identity. The sound piece, knotted to the installation, almost like an umbilical cord, consists of recordings of loved ones, along with a Greek folk song, creating a narrative where conflicting notions of belonging and living in Athens manifest. As the flag on display is waving, it explores the concept of bodies moving across the lines separating geographical areas, creating new modes of resistance.
